When that happens hillarity ensues but this story is not the case. You actually see a family be destroyed because of the "pressures" of society. This is yet another story of the upper class who cannot sacrifice their money for their happiness. Antigone has got some guts to do what she did so her brother can get a proper burial. She was very honorable for standing up to her country and eventually excepting death for her brother. Her sister needed to be ashamed of herself for leting her go through that on her own. Family has to stick together no matter what and that was the ultimate slap in the face.

gregorio cortez

This was a fun read. I like to read about things like this. The whole proud underdog stories have always appealed to me and this is no exception. When the sheriff killed his brother and he snapped and killed him, that is totally exceptable. Plus, how he outruns the entire state of Texas' police force and manages to cross the state. I love that, he is taking to the man. Turning himself in at the end was extremely noble thing to do but I would've married President Lincoln's daughter, someone is giving you a break and you never look a gift horse in the mouth.

blood wedding

Reading stories about screwed up families is becoming a pasttime for us. The mother was psychotic. Lets just put that out there. It really screwed me up when the entire story she doesn't want her son to fight and just magically changes her mind at the end of the story and lets him fight for his wife and she is surprised that he gets killed. And on top of everything they don't even describe the climactic fight scene at the end. The entire book, for me, is one big let down.

the awakening

This book really didn't interest me very well. The entire story is of a woman named Edna who is just miserable and watching her silently kill her for an entire book gets very old very quickly. It is a very strange story because you have to make a lot of assumptions about this woman in the story. No one ever really says if she is in a prison, asylum or is just a prisoner in her own home. That does make the book very interesting on the other hand because you have to use some problem solving skills and you have to read between the lines and look for certain words and how they are used and a lot of double meanings are used so you have to stay on your toes.

Douglas

First and foremost his book is amazing. It tells of a life that people can only imagine in a nightmare. It deconstructs social barriers at the time and still does to this day. The way he tells his story is amazing. He literally grabs you by your soul and takes you for the ride of your life and never lets go. It is a heartfelt realistic view of the world at the time and his life and he holds nothing back from anyone. He tells of everything in his life, no matter how degrading or demorallizing.
